Club Queer Party

2023, written by Cerie Taylor

‘I wouldn’t mind living far out if I had an easy way to get there.’

Said I, riding the bus on Gothenburg’s seamless public transport system with a handful of ESN members on our way to go out and cause trouble.

One of the best perks I found about living in Gothenburg is how accessible the city is. Whether you live in the outskirts or in the beating heart of the centre (you can’t all be cool like me) nowhere is too difficult to reach as long as you have enough time and you know where you’re going. Some student accommodations are located so close to the centre that I easily could have walked to Park Lane that night. I didn’t rub it in though.

The popular night club with its comfortingly British title hosts three nights every weekend. Friyay (Fridays) Lörday (Saturdays) and Spritluckan (Sundays). However lurking at the end of every month is CLUB QUEER, a regular LGBT+ night promising classic anthems, hours of DJs and drag queens. Lots and lots of drag queens.

Club Queer attracts many a performer through her red-toned doors (past engagements include Lavender Whip, Imma Queen and The Villbergs) but Club Queer’s host for the month of love was the one and only Seymour Bottoms.

Heheheh.

The inner drag queen in me came out full force and I highly encourage everyone to let their own inner drag queen take the floor at least once in their lives. I promise it’s liberating. She even got me dancing on the VIP Stage!

No club is complete without a few regulars - catch the always immaculate Bebulah working the decks at ÖvreBaren and Foldes on the main stage.

If drag is not really your thing (I’m not judging, I just don’t want to be friends with you) Club Queer is a monthly event and Park Lane remains a popular nightclub the rest of the time. Be sure to download the Park Lane app to see upcoming events, book a table and (if you’re lucky) get a place on the guest list for free entry!

If you find yourself in Stockholm, catch the queen herself (she is firing on all cylinders right now - watch this space!) plus a whole host of talented performers at the Devil’s Lair. Maybe you’ll live to tell the tale.

Maybe it’s time to give my inner drag queen a name?!
